The Department for Transport is consulting on how to bring the process for assessing eligibility for blue disabled parking badges in to line with the wider reform of disability benefits announced by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Veolia Water Lift the Hosepipe Ban

Veolia Water South East is from totday lifting temporary use restrictions (ban on the domestic use of hosepipes etc). These restrictions were originally introduced on 5 April after months of below average rainfall. Now an unusually wet spring and early summer with well above average rainfall have opened the way for the lifting of the restrictions.

Allen's West Crossing Safety

Eaglescliffe Lib Dem councillors have welcomed the installation of the flashing red signal at Allen's West level crossing. As Alan Lewis explained on BBC Tees radio yesterday, this is the 2nd of 3 improvements to safety, particularly aimed at protecting children. Alan has worked with Stockton Council and Network Rail to get this far and looks forward to the installation of a full barrier next year.

Just Two Days to Go - Olympic Torch Coming to Bedford Borough on Sunday Morning!

We're just two days away from the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Bedford Borough. At 9.32am on Sunday morning (yes, the scheduling really is intended to be that precise!), the torch is due to set off from Goldington Green, from where it will travel down Barkers Lane, briefly stopping off at Bedford International Athletics Stadium. It will then continue to the Embankment, across Town Bridge, down London Road and finish on Harrowden Road at 10.48am. It will then be taken to Cotton End where it will arrive at High Road at 10.52am and travel through Cotton End before leaving the borough.

Rugby Club at Hilperton

Rugby Club move gets permission

Trowbridge Rugby Club has been given planning permission to move to Hilperton. A previous application had already been approved, but the impact of the credit crunch meant their plan to sell off the Green Lane ground for housing was less profitable than originally expected, so a revised, smaller, scheme came forward.

Trowbridge councillors Jeff and Helen Osborn have been trying to get Wiltshire Council to commit to allowing the Innox Hall site to be used for changing facilities for people using the playing fields. Here's a motion they put to the council:
