Rickmansworth: This Week's E-News from the Liberal Democrats

Bike Week - Get Fit and Cycle to the Aquadrome on Saturday 23rd June. Gather in front of the cafe and get free cycle security tagging by the police and free cycle safety checks courtesy of Northwood Cycles. The cycle ride to Denham Country Park led by Spokes, South West Herts Cycling Group, leaves the Aquadrome at 10.30am. It will last about 2 hrs and take you along the Colne Valley to Denham Country Park, mainly on tracks. It is suitable for most people over 10 yrs old but those under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Sand and gravel extraction in Wiltshire

Wiltshire and Swindon Councils have produced a plan for the continued mining of aggregates in the geographical area. The Development Plan Document is called the "Proposed Submission Draft Aggregate Minerals Site Allocation". It was approved by WC on June 26th, and will now go off to be examined by a government inspector.

Councillors visit incinerator

Over 50,000 tonnes of Wiltshire's annual waste production is driven to Slough to be disposed of in the Lakeside Energy from Waste plant. Wiltshire's contribution represents about 20% of the incinerator's capacity. The waste is used as a fuel to generate electricity which is fed into the national grid.

Lib Dems stand up for residents rights

Councillor Jack Cohen, Leader of Barnet Liberal Democrats, is attacking proposed changes to the rules on public participation at planning committees. Under the existing rules if three or more residents object to a planning application, it has to be determined by the Planning Committee. This is why Planning Committees are so well attended and why so many residents turn up to exercise their right to speak. The Tory Council administration is no proposing that the minimum number of objectors that will trigger a referral to Committee is increased to five.
