Portas Pilot Bid Success for Bedford

There was good news for Bedford on Saturday, when our Town Centre was picked as one of the twelve 'Portas Pilots' following on from Mary Portas's review of the British High Street. I wrote on here recently of the innovation and drive, such as that of our wide range of independent traders and the volunteer group We Are Bedford, which is helping Bedford to fight back against the prevailing trends facing Britain's town centres. This passion for making our town more vibrant and attractive clearly shone through in the application, and gives Bedford the chance to build on the partnership work going on already and to harness the enthusiasm and creativity which is in abundance locally.

Folkestone MP Collins Tops Kent Expenses List

Local press reports have unearthed that Folkestone and Hythe MP Damian Collins claimed £38,276 expenses in ONE year. Those claims make Damian Collins the highest-claiming MP in Kent and amongst the highest claiming MPs in the the country.

Tilshead garage can open longer

The garage on the A360 at Tilshead has been successful in an application to open until 10pm each evening instead of the current closing time of 8pm. A licensing hearing held in Devizes on Friday May 25th allowed the extension despite an objection from neighbours who said the garage generated large amounts of noise, which would be worse with later hours.
