Mid Suffolk Liberal Democrats

Lib Dem strength

How are we likely to succed and be able to represeent your views on the County Council or will you have wasted your vote?

We won more local by-elections than any other party in 2025, winning more than Labour, the Conservatives and Greens combined.

We beat the Conservatives and Labour in last May’s local elections for the first time ever, and now run more councils than the Conservatives.

We won more local by-elections than any other party in 2025, winning more than Labour, the Conservatives and Greens combined.

We have a record 72 MPs after winning our best General Election result in 100 years.

Our leader, Ed Davey is the most popular party leader in the country and the most trusted on the NHS and economy (Opinium, March 2026)

Liberal Democrats are the party most trusted to run local councils (YouGov, September 2025)

Our plan - what we are calling for:

We need to tackle a number of issues that are hurting people in Suffolk: the Cost of living, the state of the NHS, our impact on the environment, crime and the county performance on Specal Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

Cost of living: Guarantee that household energy bills won’t rise by £500 this year, and introduce an emergency transport package to keep Britain moving: cutting fuel duty by 10p, slashing bus fares to £1, cutting train fares by 10%, and cutting the cost of charging electric vehicles.

NHS: Give everyone the right to see their GP within seven days or 24 hours if they urgently need to, and end the crisis of 12 hour waits and corridor care in A&E.

Environment: End the sewage cover up by forcing water companies to publish how much sewage they are spilling into our beaches and rivers, and fining those who don’t clean up their act.

Crime: Restore effective community policing where officers are visible, trusted and focused on cutting crime.

Other parties

You may believe that all political parties are the same and are ineffective. Its true that we all want to improve peoples lives. But which group of people? We all promise to fix things, to make systems more efficient and to focus on your wishes.

Labour: Keir Starmer’s Labour have badly let people down after promising change then repeating many of the mistakes of the Conservatives. Labour politicians are too busy fighting among themselves in Westminster instead of delivering for communities on the cost of living and the NHS.

Conservatives: People still haven’t forgiven the Conservative Party for trashing the economy, breaking the NHS and allowing our rivers to be polluted by filthy sewage. Kemi Badenoch hasn’t learnt from her party’s mistakes, she’s criticised the Liberal Democrats for being active in our communities and focused on local issues. It’s no wonder so many former lifelong Conservatives are switching to the Liberal Democrats.

Reform: Nigel Farage wants to import Trump’s politics into our communities, sowing division instead of fixing the problems people face. And where Reform UK run local councils, it’s chaos. Reform councillors resign weeks after being elected, lie about cutting taxes and cut vital local services.

The Greens: The Greens want to leave NATO and give up the UK’s nuclear deterrent, an incredibly risky plan at a time when Putin’s Russia poses a serious threat to our national security. They’ve forgotten about the environment: Mid Suffolk Council, the only Green-majority council in the country, is only 162nd for recycling – behind even several Reform councils. By contrast, 15 of the top 20 councils for recycling are Lib Dem-led.
