Councillor Swift battles rugby fans!

It was case of 'Frank versus the fans' at the Annual Liberal Democrat Garden Party in Spotland this week. Lib Dem Councillor Keith Swift, doing his now famous tribute to Frank Sinatra, was competing against 2000 Castleford rugby fans, and they were Castleford fans with plenty to cheer about as their side ran up a massive 106 points without reply in a demolition of Rochdale Hornets.

Campbell: Time to Recognise British Troops can do no more in Iraq

Menzies Campbell has launched a petition calling for the withdrawal of British forces from Iraq. The petition comes after Campbell wrote to Gordon Brown last month backing calls by military chiefs for British forces to pull out of Iraq because they can "achieve nothing" by staying.

Inquiry set to back council plans for 6000 houses on green fields

The public inquiry that began on Tuesday into Chelmsford council's plans for new houses is set to rubber-stamp the plans, despite the enormous voice of opposition from the voters of Broomfield who massively rejected the plans in Tuesday's by-election. That is the view of parliamentary candidate Stephen Robinson who attended the first two days of the inquiry.
