Clegg warns of 'economic 9/11

The global financial crisis may turn out to be an "economic 9/11", Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has warned. Extremist groups could search for support among people who considered themselves victims of "economic injustice. European governments had to step up to the plate to reduce economic inequality. A long recession could also damage the countries' ability to keep troops stationed in Afghanistan", he predicted.

Robin Webber-Jones, Liberal Democrat campaigner for Markfield and Stanton Under Bardon has launched a petition against plans to put an incinerator into Bardon. Conservative County Council bosses are planning to build an incinerator there despite concerns from local people and Friends of the Earth.

Sharon Bowles regrets European Parliament's return to Strasbourg

South East MEP Sharon Bowles (Lib Dem) was disappointed by the news that after holding its previous two plenary sessions in Brussels, due to the collapse of the ceiling of the chamber in Strasbourg, the European Parliament would be returning to its regular seat for its October session.
