Honour the Covenant says Rochdale MP

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has joined nearly 200 MPs in backing the Royal British Legion's campaign to 'Honour the Covenant'. The 'Military Covenant' is a mutual promise acknowledged by all services. It says that in return for service personnel agreeing to place themselves in harm's way for their country, the Government promises to help and support people in the Armed Forces and their families when this support is needed.

Poorest families will be hit hardest by rising energy prices says Clegg

EDF Energy is putting up its electricity prices by 7.9% and gas prices by 12.9% this week. The firm blamed the rise on the "soaring cost" of wholesale energy, higher distribution costs and increased environmental obligations. EDF said the higher prices would add just under £2 a week to the typical dual fuel bill. The company is one of the UK's largest energy suppliers, providing electricity and gas to 5.5 million customers.

Farron criticises Stagecoach fare rise

Local MP Tim Farron has today criticised bus firm Stagecoach for the 7.5% rise in the cost of travelling in South Cumbria, this will be the third time in four years that the fares have risen. The rise, which is significantly more than the rate of inflation has been attributed to a rise in fuel prices.

Post office campaign update - "If the Government truly believes in local democracy, now is the time to show it!"

Local MP Tim Farron's campaign to save the 43 local post offices threatened by Government closures continued this week with hundreds more signing up to support local post offices. Communities across South Lakeland continue to register their support for their local post offices. So far over 3700 people have signed petitions protesting closures. In addition, over 650 individual letters have been sent in support of local post offices.
