Youth betrayed by Conservative County Council

A Lib Dem County Councillor has raised questions about the future of Youth Work in the County. Cllr Simon Galton is concerned that the massive reductions in Youth Work will see a loss of capacity to help the County's young people.

Special Report - Green Open Spaces In Chapel House and Chapel Park

A lot of unnecessary concern has been stirred up about the future of several open spaces in the area. The council has confirmed that were never any decisions to commit all or even a part of the land at the Parkway for housing. Once it became clear that the Roman Catholic Diocese was interested in the site for a possible expansion for St John Vianney School, then that became the priority for the future and it is safeguarded for that purpose.

Council budget freezes council tax and protects services

The City Council is consulting on budget proposals for the year ahead. All councils are facing big grant cuts to tackle the huge deficit left by the last Labour Government. The city council will be redesigning many of its services and increasing some charges but the majority of spending reductions are in areas such as management, administration, supplies and services, transport and accommodation.
