Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Health, said: "The fact that more than 6,000 more people became infected with HIV in Britain in 2013 shows that our efforts to combat the virus are clearly not working.
Lib Dem leader Tim Farron MP has released a video for World AIDS Day with the National AIDS Trust. In it, he says:
December 17th is the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. The day has been marked since 2003, in the aftermath of the Green River Killer in the USA.
It is an honour for me to be asked by the LGBT+ Liberal Democrats Executive to return to the post of Chair. I was previously Chair between 2010 - 2013, when our party, with allies from across the political spectrum, spearheaded the campaign for Same-Sex Marriage in England & Wales. Our colleagues in Scotland supported it there, but sadly Northern Ireland still lags behind. Trans people can still have their rights held to ransom through the spousal veto. Along with pensions, it is clear that there is still work to be done to make same-sex marriage truly equal in the UK.
LGBT+ Liberal Democrats today welcomed progress towards equality for trans and non-binary people, whilst cautioning that further work remains to be done to ensure the proposals are fully implemented.
Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has tabled a parlimentary bill that would end the ban on blood donations from men who have sex with men. Talking about the bill, he said "The current law which bars sexually active gay men is scientifically and socially outdated, deeply and unjustly stigmatising, and urgently needs to change. In 2016 I cannot see why we can't support an evidence based approach. I hope my bill today is another stage in the long running campaign to deliver equality."
