Criticism of Anti-Terrorism Laws Confirmed

Detaining foreign terrorist suspects without trial breaks human rights laws, the UK's highest court has ruled. In a blow to the government's controversial anti-terror measures, the House of Lords law lords ruled in favour of the appeals made by the 9 people detained without trial at Belmarsh prison.

The Folkestone based 1st Royal Gurkha Rifles have not been included in a series of mergers and battalion reductions announced by Minister for Defence Geoff Hoon in a statement to Parliament today. Despite fears that the Gurkhas were amongst those facing cuts, the announcement seems to safeguard the future of the batallion.

Epsom Hospital - a message from Jonathan Lees

The NHS consultation "Better Healthcare Closer to Home" has now finished. Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Jonathan Lees says "The next big date is 25th January when we will find out which site has been chosen for the new critical care centre. This could be in Epsom or in Sutton. The Liberal Democrats in Epsom & Ewell, as LOCAL people who live in this community, are determined that nothing happens to take away our local hospital from Epsom."
