The Met Office have issued a severe weather warning for Kent, predicting a 60% chance of heavy and persistent rain to spread across Kent from the west during Tuesday 15th January, with up to 25mm likely in places. That rain will be accompanied by strong southerly winds with gusts to gale or severe gale force over South Eastern England.
Plans to liberate schools from excessive state interference and guarantee hospital treatment to patients within a set time have been set out by Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg. Speaking at the One Day manifesto conference in London on Saturday, Mr Clegg argued that central government's task is to allocate funding for public services fairly to guarantee equal treatment and to ensure good minimum standards. Mr Clegg also set out plans for a new generation of schools free of government interference. In the NHS, Mr Clegg said patients should be guaranteed treatment within a certain period, provided through the private sector if necessary. He also called for patients to be given their own health budgets to spend on treatment for long-term and chronic conditions.

The Liberal Democrats are saying that the information that has been provided in the consultation is misleading and not true.
The Shepway Council meeting to decide on plans to expand London Ashford Airport, Lydd, has been postponed. The move has been welcomed by Shepway Liberal Democrat Group Leader Lynne Beaumont, who has been calling for the application to be called in to a full public enquiry.
