Cornwall's three Liberal Democrat MPs have paid tribute to Councillor Doris Ansari who has announced she will be standing down as Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Cornwall Council. She was first elected to Truro City Council in 1971 and joined the former Cornwall County Council in 1980. Doris became the Leader of the 38 strong Liberal Democrat Group at County Hall when the Council first moved to a unitary council in 2009.
On Thursday May 5th 4 Liberal Democrat councillors were elected to Stockton Borough Council:
Newcastle Liberal Democrats would like to thank everyone who voted for us in the Council elections on Thursday.
Sadly as of the 6th May there are still no Lib Dem councillors in Bromsgrove. The current political climate was always going to be difficult to challenge a strong Conservative majority and it turns out that this was indeed the case yesterday. The Conservatives have even gained 2 seats in the elections - thus increasing their majority.
Polling Stations across the Borough are now closed. The count for all of the elections held today in Bedford Borough, including the mayoral election, is taking place tomorrow, on Friday. The result will be announced later in the day. One of the best places to go for the results will be www.bedfordlibdems.org.uk , which will be reporting all of the results for both the council and mayoral elections.
