Lib Dems set for historic win in Brent East by-election

Today is polling day in Brent East in North London and it's the Liberal Democrat's Sarah Teather who is setting the pace in this formerly safe Labour seat. The Conservative candidate has already admitted that she cannot win and has been described in the national press as throwing in the towel. Labour's Robert Evans has not impressed voters, deciding not to make the journey from Surrey to defend Tony Blair in a public meeting on Iraq. Mushroom Farm Survival

A Brookland Mushroom Farm threatened with closure now faces a brighter future thanks to help from local Lib Dem campaigners Peter Carroll and Sylvia Oiller. The farm, Wilsons Nursery on the aptly named Narrowbush Lane, was unable to get deliveries or collections by lorry in recent weeks. The lanes leading from the main road to the farm had been made so narrow by over hanging trees that lorries could not get through without damaging themselves. Peter and Sylvia approached Shepway District Council who have now responded with a plan to severely cut back the trees.

Office of Deputy Prime Minister Halts Queens Park Development Improvements

Liberal Democrat Councillors have attacked recommendations by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) that would see new facilities such as a medical centre, community centre and play areas scrapped at a new development planned for Queens Park.

Dartmoor National Park Authority again refuse local builder permission to live in his own house.

A meeting of the Dartmoor National Parks Planning Committee last Friday again turned down by one vote an application by local builder, Bob Wyatt, to change the use of the barn in which he now lives from holiday to residential use.
