Vandalized parking signs in Cricklewood

A sign of things to come

A Local Councillor is furious that vandalised parking signs have not been replaced. The signs in Cricklewood Lane NW2 were apparently vandalised in November 2012. Cllr Jack Cohen says he was promised by the Council that they would be replaced in January but nothing has been done. Cllr Cohen says "The parking regulations cannot be enforced for as long as the signs remain in this condition. This is probably costing the Council a lot of money. Local residents who have paid for permits are let down because everyone else can now park for free."

Cllr Jack Cohen at The Castle pub

Councillor demands answers about fate of historic pub

A pub that can be traced back to 1751 now lies derelict and boarded up. The Castle, at the Junction of Cricklewood Lane and Finchley Road NW2, is now under threat of demolition. Local Liberal Democrat Ward Councillor for Childs Hill Jack Cohen is demanding answers from Barnet planners about the future use of the site. Cllr Jack Cohen says "I have been contacted by local residents who are angry, dismayed and upset that this local landmark is in in danger of being destroyed. I have asked the Planning Department whether they know what is going on. Apparently been no planning application has been made, and because the building is not listed and it is not in a conservation area there is nothing that can be done to stop it being demolished."

At Key stage 4 it's the same story. Only one third of pupils with free school meals achieved the expected progress from Key Stage 2 to 4, 11% worse than the national average. Last year Hertfordshire Schools received £16 million pounds of additional Pupil Premium funding specifically to improve the education of disadvantaged children.

Unwise G4S Plan to Outsource Police Support Work Scrapped After Liberal Democrat Pressure

Last October and November Liberal Democrats campaigned strongly against the "unwise" plan by the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner. County Councillor Nick Hollinghurst who spoke twice at Council meetings at County Hall said "Apart from G4S's lamentable performance with Olympic Games security, we have to remember they are a large multi-national corporation. They run prisons, courts, police administration, prisoner transport and support services. It is unwise to hand over yet another part of Britain's criminal justice system to an international private business with, some say, already too great an influence in UK policing."
