Declining value of Winter Fuel Payment leaves pensioners in the cold

The Liberal Democrats have published figures showing Winter Fuel Payment now only pays for a quarter of a pensioner's fuel bills. While the amount of the Payment has been frozen at £200 for five years, fuel bills and the profits of energy companies have both risen. This has resulted in the value of the Payments halving.

Government database on children should be scrapped!

The Liberal Democrats have repeated their call for the government database containing details on every child in the UK to be scrapped, following the publication today of an independent review into its security. Information about every child's name, address, their parents or guardians, as well as contact details for each government service they use, was going to be added to the ContactPoint database. The accountants' report says the database could never be secure. Lib Dems have attacked the Government for refusing to publish the full report.

Rising star quizzes Lib Dem Leader

Rising star of Rochdale Liberal Democrats Atifa Shah from Deeplish last night put Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg MP on the spot over plans for young people. Atifa, 20, the former Youth Member of Parliament for the Borough impressed all. She was speaking in front of over 300 party members including several MPs including Paul Rowen and Councillors and members from across Rochdale.
