Gosforth High Street BID plan takes shape

A timetable has been set to try to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) in Gosforth High Street for the start of the next financial year. A BID enables 1% of the business rate to be collected for improvements to the area. A BID in the City Centre has been successful, most recently securing the creation of the 'Grey Street Garden'. A similar development in Gosforth could help generate trade and interest in local services.

Protest to mark end of planning 'consultation'

Monday August 9th is the last day on which people can comment on Wiltshire Council's plans for house-building in the county, and environmental organisations are planning to hold a demonstration at County Hall against what they see as a blueprint for more greenfield site development at a time when town centres are decaying.

It is not hard to see why Labour in Spelthorne had their worst ever election result in May. They are out of touch locally and have bankrupted the country nationally, Apart from one part of Stanwell Labour literally didn't even waste their time by turning up.

Tories AGREE on street Parking Charges

26,289 That's the number of people who signed an on-line petition against Conservative plans to introduce Car parking charges at Ashford, Shepperton, Sunbury Cross and other local shopping centres across the county. Added to several other e-petitions and paper petitions (including our own) more than 50,000 have rejected the Tories mad scheme.

Is the Spelthorne Bulletin good value for money and unbiased?

You will have recently received Spelthorne Bulletin number 95. It lists newly elected councillors in Spelthorne. The list on page 20 shows only 6 non-Conservative councillors all of them Lib Dems. However Caroline Spencer (Ashford Town) was elected in Ashford Town as an Independent. Caroline is NOT a Conservative councillor as shown.

LIB DEM LEADER WINS LIBEL CASE

Brentwood's Lib Dem leader Cllr David Kendall announced this week that he had won an out of court libel action against the Brentwood & Ongar Conservative Association. Cllr Kendall mounted his legal challenge following the distribution of a Conservative leaflet last year across his County Division entitled the "Big Lib Dem Let down". In the leaflet which related to a Standards Board case brought against his colleague Lib Dem Cllr Barry Aspinell it said the "Lib Dem leader condones misleading of local residents" It also inferred that Cllr Kendall was happy to peddle dishonest propaganda and attempt to hoodwink local people.
