SPORT STRATEGY SUFFERS A FALSE START - BUT THE ATHLETICS TRACK EVENT HAS ALREADY STARTED! DBC's long overdue Sports and Activity has failed to satisfy scrutineers and has been sent back to the starting-line for a re-write. Meanwhile the council is going ahead with yet ANOTHER major Sports infrastructure decision - with NO SPORTS STRATEGY. On Wednesday night at Scrutiny the draft was rejected and severely criticised by Liberal Democrat Cllrs Adrian England and Lara Pringle, as well as some Conservative Cllrs. Cllr England said: "What's missing? It lacks at least 5 things that anything worthy of being called a Strategy should have - Big Picture, headline data, Ownership, headline resources and a timescale." The Committee agreed that the strategy document should be re-written and brought back to Scrutiny for appraisal. Now DBC has ignored the Committee - which Cllr Neil Harden attended - and launched another Consultation on the relocation of the Jarman Park Athletics track; BEFORE its strategic approach to

Recycling - for flats - in Dacorum doesn't add up!

Liberal Democrat Councillor Adrian England says "Dacorum Borough Council needs to re-think recycling for residents who live in flats. It just doesn't add up: in my ward - Adeyfield West - there are examples of where eighteen flats in three adjacent blocks have to share only six recycling containers. That means if you live in a flat you have 1/3 of a bin, when the houses in the same street (Windmill Road, where I live) have a large bin EACH, all collected every two weeks. Last week these six containers were all full to overflowing by Sunday - two days before collection was due. That means Dacorum is missing the chance to collect AT LEAST an additional whole bin-full of recycling every two days! Recycling rates from flats could be increased by nearly one fifth if capacity was increased." So potential recycling is lost to general waste. Even worse, overflowing plastic blows away and ends up in the sea. As we are all now aware, the cost of unnecessary landfill waste collection is more than just a budget heading

Another Post Office Threatened with Closure in Hemel

The news of the closure of the Bellgate Post Office will be a serious blow to the Highfield Community. Many local residents have relied on its services to avoid going into town. Older residents, and those not on the internet, will be hard hit as they rely on the local post office to pay bills, transfer money and perform numerous other transactions that others take for granted.

Bin half full on recycling at Dacorum..

At Dacorum Full Council on 26th September, Conservatives were keen to talk about improving household recycling until Lib Dem Councillor Adrian England pointed "over the fence" at how much more next door councils are already achieving. In questions to Cllr Janice Marshall, Cllr England asked: "Does the Portfolio-holder agree with me that, as good as it is to see incremental progress on recycling there is still low-hanging fruit to be picked? Our neighbours in Liberal Democrat controlled Three Rivers DC have been over 10% ahead of Dacorum on this for at least the last five years! How long is the Council prepared to wait before making a serious attempt to reach AT LEAST 60% - can Councillor Marshall give us a year?" The Conservative Cabinet member was unwilling to commit.. Cupid Green Fields saved - with Cabinet still short of a strategy

Cabinet is set to withdraw proposals to move the Jarman Athletics track to Cupid Green fields, after a consultation report showing deep and reasoned objections was championed by LibDem Councillors Adrian England and Lara Pringle, at wednesday's "Oversight & Scrutiny Committee" meeting, at The Forum.
