Lib Dems Announce Pupil Premium for Local Schools

County Councillor Colin Taylor has welcomed news of almost £6,000,000 extra for schools in Surrey, including over £500,000 extra for schools within the Epsom & Ewell constituency, particularly for Epsom Primary School, one of the three primary schools in his county division where he serves as a school governor.

£2.7 million pounds to help our local schools

The Coalition Government have announced the amount of money they are giving to schoold to help our most disadvantaged pupils. The Pupil Premium which is a Liberal Democrat initiative was initially going to be £450 per pupils it has been increased to £488 per pupil on free school meals. This money will be used by schools to help improve the educational opportunities of our young people.

"Make Our Crossing Safe"

Following complaints from parents about the half barriers at Allen's West level crossing not keeping children away from the trains Alan Lewis met with Stockton Council officers and Network Rail on site to discuss the issue. Network Rail say that it is acceptable on their safety assessment but that in light of new housing proposals they will look at it again. Meanwhile Stockton Council officers have said that they will fill in a gap in a fence and will look at putting a safety gate on the South East corner of the crossing.

North Chelmsford Park & Ride fares to rise despite Lib Dem plea

Fares will increase on the newly opened Chelmer Valley Park and Ride only six months after opening. Springfield's Lib Dem County Councillor Mike Mackrory mounted a last-minute bid to stop the rise but the Conservatives pressed on. Cllr Mackrory 'called in' the Cabinet Member's decision to increase the charges from October 10 because he was very concerned that the recent increased usage of the site would be put at risk.
