Wiltshire Council decapitated

The decision to do away with the council's Chief Executive was confirmed by the all-Conservative 'cabinet' today. Andrew Kerr, appointed two years ago to lead the new unitary authority on a salary of nearly £200,000 and after a recruitment process which itself cost £50,000, is to be dismissed on the grounds of redundancy.

Rural Broadband

Expanding the use of the internet requires improvements to the capacity and speed of the internet system. Government policy is to roll out 'super-fast' broadband to 90% of the population by 2015. This roll out is principally focused on urban areas and centres of high economic activity and population, with investment from government (£530m up to 2015 and possibly £300m more up to 2017).

National recognition for Borough Council regeneration site.

The transformation of the long-derelict Dema Glass and Car-Auction sites into a modern development which includes the much admired B2Net Stadium, a new Tesco and the 4 star Casa Hotel has been recognised in a prestigious national awards ceremony. The development , which took place at a time of severe economic recession across the country, was one of several major developments brought about under the previous Liberal Democrat Borough Council and was highly commended in the national regeneration awards. The success was particularly creditable given that there were over 400 entries, including the Olympic Park , the Longbridge site in Birmingham and Smithfield Market in London. Cllr Ray Russell ( Liberal Democrat Leader of the Borough Council from 2003 to 2011 ) said that ' this success is great for Chesterfield and a fitting recognition of the modern, determined and innovative approach of the former Liberal Democrat Borough Council in bringing quality development and jobs to the area. The New Shepway Parking Strategy: Charge!

The long trailed Shepway Parking Strategy has been released and agreed by Conservative Shepway District Council Cabinet. As long predicted by the Liberal Democrats in Shepway, the plan proposes new on-street parking charges in many locations across the district.
