The Budget setting Council Meeting ended predictably

The Budget setting Council Meeting ended predictably. The Conservative used their majority to push through their Budget proposals. The meeting was lack lustre and it felt at times as if we were simply going through the motions. As usual we, The Liberal Democrats proposed an alternative budget. I know it had no chance of being supported by the Conservatives. I do not think that is really point rather it is an opportunity to tell our residents that despite financial constraints it is possible to propose initiatives that really help local people and still freeze Council Tax.

More money for Rural Broadband

People living and working in the rural part of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough will move a step closer to having a super-fast broadband internet service after the Borough Council decided to increase its spending on the scheme by 50 per cent. The council will boost its contribution to the County Council-run Broadband Leicestershire project to £60,000 after deciding to earmark a £15,000 underspend on this year's Parish and Community Initiative Fund, added to a further £5,000 from next year's fund.
