Mike Treleaven launches 'Axe the Tax 'campaign in the Totnes constituency

Mike Treleaven, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Totnes, will launch the party's 'Axe the Tax' campaign in Totnes on Saturday morning ( 18th. October) at 10.30am in the Market Square. There will be an opportunity for people to find out more about Liberal Democrat plans to replace this iniquitous and unfair tax with local income tax based on the ability to pay, and to sign a petition which will be part of a national petition to be presented to Government. It's official, the Lib Dems save you money

A Liberal Democrat motion to Surrey County Council on energy efficiency tabled in October 2001, is now about to yield action and substantial savings to Surrey's taxpayers. These savings should amount to £250,000 or £300,000 per year, out of an annual spending of the order of £6.5 million.

Campaigning for our NHS!

Rally - A great success!

It was estimated that nearly 200 people took part in the protest at various times yesterday. The event went well despite the weather and included Rochdale residents, members of the Friends of our Hospital, Councillors, Council Staff and Staff at the Infirmary. Unfortunately, Paul Rowen MP who organised the lobby was unable to attend due a number of planes being cancelled in London.

Youth Service

A Community Services Task group has been set up to examine the work and development of Connexions. It is worrying that 40% of Surrey's resources for young people are already committed by the Tory administration to Connexions, yet another quango, and they are aiming for 80%. To make matters worse, we still do not know details of requirements for Connexions Centres, i.e. what is a Connexions Centre and how should it be planned? Also many operational issues are unresolved.
