Post Office campaign gains momentum
Hundreds of residents across South Lakeland have already signed the petition launched by MP Tim Farron in response to the Government's announcement that a further 2,500 rural post offices are to close. The local MP launched the petition just before Christmas, and sent petition forms to post offices across his Westmorland & Lonsdale constituency.

Firstly, I would like to wish all readers a happy year and hope that you had a good Christmas. I would also like to wish our Asian Readers a Happy Eid and hope that you enjoyed festivities. Spotland and Falinge is a multi-cultural area of which we are hugely proud of. Rochdale Council has Beacon Status for Community Cohesion and this area is a great example of integration and it was good to see all the community enjoying the holiday season together.

Council Leader highlights Middleton Priorities!
Last year was a big year for Middleton, probably the policy that will affect Middleton more than any other was the policy of devolution. The Townships have been hugely successful and a small return to the old Middleton Council that was abolished in 1974.

More NHS job cuts likely in 2007
The number of job losses in the NHS will increase in the new year as part of a drive to cut costs, the pressure group Health Emergency has predicted. It estimates that more than 22,000 jobs were lost in 2006 and 2,500 beds closed across the UK.
