Essex: Tories reluctant to commit to action on climate change

The green credentials of Conservatives in Essex were found wanting today (10 October) after they initially refused to accept a motion calling on the council to sign the Nottingham Declaration which commits the council to action on climate change. The Tories also failed to commit to publishing an action plan, within a year, stating their proposals for dealing with climate change and cutting CO2 emissions.

"Unite to fight NHS cuts" say Lib Dems

Liberal Democrat councillors are giving their strong support to the principle of a united cross-party campaign to fight any cuts to NHS services in Guildford. At Thursday's meeting of Guildford Borough Council, senior Lib Dem Onslow councillor Tony Phillips will call on the council to use its influence to mobilise all sectors of the local community to campaign against any possible cuts in NHS provision or closure of the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

'Stand up for Rochdale' says Rochdale's MP

The eyes of the country will be on Rochdale tomorrow (Wednesday) - when the Town comes together to protest against cuts at Rochdale Infirmary. The lobby is aimed at letting Councillors know the strength of feeling in the Town and is designed to continue the awareness of the ongoing crisis at Rochdale Infirmary. The event is expected to attract widespread media attention and is seen as Rochdale fighting back. The protest, at Rochdale Town Hall is expected to be huge.

Dundee City Council's Liberal Democrat Vice Convener of Environmental Services and Sustainability, Cllr Helen Dick, today (Monday 9th October) welcomed the news that Dundee is now third in Scotland's recycling league table.
