Labour's free-care plans are a flimsy fantasy

Commenting on the Channel 4 news report that revealed the Government is planning to cut the Attendance Allowance budget by £100m to pay for free residential care, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Norman Lamb, said "Labour promised to protect disability benefits from any future cuts but it looks like they're going to have to raid budgets to pay for their free care plans."

Wolverhampton Bus Station closes tonight

As part of the long awaited Wolverhampton Interchange project, Wolverhampton Bus Station will close at the end of service this evening. Buses will now use a number of temporary bus stops in the City Centre whilst the Bus Station is rebuilt.

April Fool story becomes reality

Buried under the debris of old stories I've excavated this one from April 1st 2009. The article wasn't intended to be entirely accurate, but in at least one result it was prophetic in awarding council leader Jane Scott her OBE several months before the Queen got round to doing the job more officially. The knighthood I awarded to deputy leader John Thompson hasn't yet been confirmed - perhaps next year. As for how many of the other spoofs have come to pass, you decide. Here's the story:

Bike Safety - A new campaign for Basingstoke

Not one to dismiss a good idea/initiative when we see one but we spotted the following article in the Basingstoke Observer. We think this is a good idea. In 2008 motorcyclists represented 1% of road traffic but accounted for 19% of all fatalities. Writing from experience if you know a biker, as a car driver you will look out for bikes!
