A petition by residents opposed to the demolition of Shieldfield Social Club so as to build a 100-bed student hall, has been received by Planners. The Executive Director of Regeneration has confirmed to Cllr Gareth Cooper that the petition will be considered when coming to a decision. Gareth Cooper commented: "I and my councillor colleagues have objected to this application. There are enough student halls in Shieldfield, and it is leading to a lack of balance in the community. I hope that the Development Control Committee will listen to the voice of residents in this matter, when they make their decision on 27th May."
