Plans announced by Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg MP to boost funding of schools in Wolverhampton by £18.25million have been given the thumbs up by local party members. The plans were set out in the Liberal Democrats' election manifesto.

Commenting on Michael Gove's defence of Conservative plans to set up Swedish-style "free schools", Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Heather Kidd said: "On the curriculum, Conservative plans are in even more of an incoherent muddle. Michael Gove plans to impose an absurdly detailed curriculum on most state-funded schools, while allowing free schools to adopt a pick-and-mix curriculum - even if this means dropping core subjects such as British history and modern languages."
The Tories have been accused of being "out of touch" today for wrongly claiming more than half of girls in the most deprived areas get pregnant before they turn 18. They said the conception rate for this age group in the 10 most disadvantaged areas of England was 54%, while the real figure was 5.4%.
