Conservatives vote through another major development in town centre

Planning permission for a four-storey care home for up to 109 elderly residents is set to be built in London Road on a site currently occupied by just four houses. Sunrise Senior Living, a US company who will be charging a minimum of £700 per room per week, now aims to open the home within the next 2 years.

"The Presence of the Chairman of the District Council should be acknowledged first"

From the Shepway District council web site: a page describing the etiquette, terms of address and precedence of the Chairman of the Council. The first sentence of the page at www.shepway.gov.uk/content/view/1539/1604/ reads "The Chairman of Shepway District Council is the First Citizen in the District of Shepway, and takes precedence over all others including the Town Mayors of Folkestone, Hythe, New Romney and Lydd."

Government apology over rendition - Liberal Democrats demand full inquiry

Liberal Democrats have demanded a full inquiry following the admission from the Government that two US extraordinary rendition flights stopped on the British territory of Diego Garcia. The Foreign Secretary said he was "very sorry" to have to say that previous denials were now having to be corrected. In answers to Ming Campbell the Government had denied knowledge of the use of British territory or airspace for the purposes of extraordinary rendition.

Conservative Councillor Capon Conduct Code Censure

Former Hythe Town Councillor and current Kent County Councillor Christopher Capon has been found to have breached the Councillors Code of Conduct THREE times by the Standards Committee at Shepway District Council. The Conservative Hythe Councillor was censured by the committee, which was the only punishment open to them.

TORIES AND LABOUR REFUSE TO LET YOUNG PEOPLE VOTE

Conservative and Labour councillors at County Hall today joined forces to defeat a Liberal Democrat motion which would have allowed North Yorkshire's school pupils to directly elect their "Young Peoples' Champion". The Liberal Democrat councillors think that it should be the young people who vote for the councillor they want to represent them and not left to the Executive of the Council.
