Tories and Labour Leave an Open Door for Fortnightly Collections

The Labour and Conservative Groups on Bedford Borough Council last night voted to look into introducing fortnightly rubbish collections, and failed to back the Lib Dems' call to reject fortnightly waste collections and instead focus on the promotion and extension of the existing 'orange bag' recycling scheme. Both the Tories and Labour supported an amendment to investigate the option of introducing fortnightly collections, and refused to join the Lib Dems in opposing the County Council's attempts to roll out fortnightly collections across the county.

Lib Dems Call for St George's Day Bank Holiday

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are calling on the government to make St George's Day a Bank Holiday in England. After a Liberal Democrat amendment was successful at a meeting of Bedford Borough Council last night, the Council will write to the government supporting the creation of the new bank holiday.

Newbridge Gdns resurfaced

Newbridge Crescent resurfaced at last

Cllr Robin Lawrence is delighted with the resurfacing of Newbridge Gardens. Last Summer he told the Council that there had been no maintenance for at least twenty years and urgent repairs were needed. The worst pot holes were then filled up but Robin called for a full resurfacing to be done. He continued to press the Transport Network Team to ensure that Newbridge Crescent was included in the resurfacing programme.

MP to press minister for road signs to support Dales tourism

Local MP Tim Farron is seeking a meeting with the Secretary of State for Transport to press the case for signs to the Yorkshire Dales at junction 37 of the M6 in the same way that signs have been provided to the Lake District at junction 36. His campaign has the support of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
