At last night's Policy & Resources Board (6/8/12) Lib Dem councillors voted against plans to introduce a Local Council Tax Support Scheme in Brentwood which has been forced on the Council by the Tory led coalition government.

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called on the government to agree that 'indicative' funding made available for a Kendal flood defence scheme is still there, after a Guardian report alleged that money which had been promised to build flood defences on the River Kent has been withdrawn.

Chelmsford upgraded to Fairtrade CITY status
Chelmsford became a Fairtrade Town in 2005, when then Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr Phil Harvey and Conservative Yvonne Spence proposed a motion at Chelmsford Council. The recent application by the Chelmsford Fairtrade Campaign has been renewed and Chelmsford is now, officially, a Fairtrade City.
