5,000 more Post Offices could close!

Postcomm has urged the Government today to make "tough and overdue decisions" on the future of the nation's 14,000 post offices. Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat spokesperson said "This damning criticism of ministers over post offices by an independent watchdog is unprecedented. With over 5,000 post offices in danger of closing according to these figures, we now have a crisis of unprecedented proportions. We will be leading the parliamentary campaign to call for action before it is too late."

Wind farms are getting funds earmarked for other schemes

At the Labour Party conference, Environment Secretary David Miliband promised £10m to help fund projects like wind power. But it has emerged that this £10m will come from cutting schemes to promote double-glazing and insulation. Park Ward's Lib Dem candidate Robin Lawrence said "There is little point building wind farms to provide energy that will be wasted in badly-insulated buildings. These insulation schemes were designed to promote household energy efficiency. This is an area where a lot of energy is still wasted and where people can make their own individual contribution to dealing with one of today's major issues."
