Options for former Trinity School site discussed

Discussions are taking place about the future of the former site of Trinity School or Kenton Lodge in Kenton Road. West Gosforth ward councillors and residents want the original main building to be protected from demolition and Council officers advise that this suggestion is being incorporated into a development brief. The brief will indicate what sort of uses would be appropriate for the building and surrounding grounds. The ownership of the building currently lies with the City Council. One option being investigated is for the site to be used as accommodation for older people before any decision on marketing the site for sale is made.

Upgrade for Jubilee Road community facilities

Funding is being gathered to invest in the community facilities adjacent to Jubilee Road. The priority is the repairs to Coxlodge Community Centre and parking, but other proposals exist to upgrade the changing rooms and bowling facilities. It is also hoped that a play area could be located at the front, at Jubilee Road, and negotiations are taking place with the Fire Service about a potential land swap to enable this to happen.

Salters Road/High Street signal timings changed

Engineers have agreed to alter the timing of the signals again at the Salters Road and High Street junction in Gosforth to try to alleviate congestion and promote road safety.

Ouseburn Shorts

The annual Silent Film night will be held in Heaton Park on 23 August. This is a fantastic and quite unique night out - a silent film accompanied by live piano. Once again we have had complaints about early morning waste collections at the Glenmara House student hall in Shieldfield. We have raised this with the University of Northumbria and they assure us it has now been sorted out. The Multi-Use Games Area proposed for Napier Green will be built in the autumn after a delay to sort out a planning issue. A new puffin crossing will be installed on Falconar Street near Christ Church to help pedestrians cross this increasingly busy patch of road. As we go to press, we are getting reports that the Labour Council is cutting the ward's funding for children's activities and moving it to traditonally Labour held wards, More information as we get it.
