A Liberal Democrat government would establish a mental health research fund to support the development of new cutting-edge mental health treatments, Nick Clegg has announced.
Leading Liberal Democrat Councillors from all over England gathered on Saturday at the Universityof Bedford for a conference organised by the Local Government Association. The keynote speaker was the Deputy Prime Minister Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP who had recently acquitted himself so well at the Leverson Inquiry. Nick arrived fresh from NOT supporting our Conservative coalition partners in the Commons debate on the behaviour of the much-entangled (with the Murdoch Empire) Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt - who was "in it together" with David Cameron, who was "in it together" with Rebekah Wade...and so on.
Right across the county this winter, the Liberal Democrats have been fighting the Conservatives to try to get new salt bins and support residents with self help.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Mark Watkin, Opposition Spokesperson for Education, challenged Hertfordshire County Council's Executive Member for Education, Conservative Councillor Frances Button, to explain how services will address the needs of specific groups who cannot cope with schools, such as high achieving children with autism. She failed to do so. Instead she repeated the standard response that they could either attend a Moderate Learning Difficulty school; or have home help; or attend a mainstream school - none of which will adequately meet the needs of many of these children.
