Special Educational Needs Not Being Properly Addressed

Liberal Democrat Councillor Mark Watkin, Opposition Spokesperson for Education, challenged Hertfordshire County Council's Executive Member for Education, Conservative Councillor Frances Button, to explain how services will address the needs of specific groups who cannot cope with schools, such as high achieving children with autism. She failed to do so. Instead she repeated the standard response that they could either attend a Moderate Learning Difficulty school; or have home help; or attend a mainstream school - none of which will adequately meet the needs of many of these children.

498 Bus: Nine year campaign ends in success

Members of the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association were celebrating this week after their nine year campaign to get the 498 bus service to go into the grounds of Queens Hospital was finally given the go ahead. The new service which is operated by First buses will start on Saturday 27th April and it will mean that bus users from Brentwood will now be able to get off in the Hospital grounds. This will make a major difference particularly for the elderly users who up until now have had to either wait for another bus or walk to the hospital from Romford Town Centre in the cold and the rain.

A zebra crossing is a likely solution

Progress on Warley Hill safety

Lib Dem County Cllr David Kendall's campaign to try and get a pedestrian crossing on Warley Hill, Warley near to the proposed new Tesco Express store received a welcome boost this week. Tesco have confirmed that they would be willing to make a financial contribution towards the cost of a pedestrian crossing and said their Highways Consultant would be in touch to take the discussions forward.
