Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have called for action to end the 'digital divide' which sees many rural residents suffer slow broadband connection speeds. Residents in Shortstown have reported slow and unreliable internet connection speeds for their properties, even in some cases where nearby streets have no such problems.
Government plans to expand the financial services role for the Post Office have been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron, however, Mr Farron has warned the proposals don't do nearly enough to protect post offices in rural communities.
Commenting on Local Government Association (LGA) Crime Survey, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary said "This is more evidence from the front line that Britain is in the grip of a credit crunch crimewave."

Andrew Lansley is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he can wield an axe to Primary Care Trust budgets without it leading to cuts in frontline staff"
Local MP Tim Farron joined supporters of Age Concern at the Castle Street Centre in Kendal yesterday to discuss new plans for the care of older people.
