LEADERSHIP BATTLE HOTTING UP

The Lib Dem Leadership contest will be hotting up this week as the candidates travel up and down the country speaking to members. Candidates Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne and their respective campaign offices will be working hard to get their messages across to as many members as possible this week as ballot papers will be posted out to every member next week.

Paul Holmes MP and your female local Councillors celebrate 100 years of women being elected

MP gives thumbs up for 100 years of women Councillors.

This month marks the 100th anniversary of the first women Councillors being elected in the country. Following the Qualification of Women Act, female candidates were allowed to stand in the elections of 1st November 1907 for the first time. Those elected began taking office at the first meetings of the new councils, 100 years ago this week. Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes joined local female Councillors to celebrate the anniversary.

Soldier and words 'Honour the Covenant'

Honour the Covenant

The Liberal Democrats have supported today's call by the Royal British Legion to improve the treatment of our former and current armed services personnel. Chelmsford Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson said, "The country asks a great deal of our service personnel and I firmly believe that not enough is being done to ensure their well-being and health in return. That is why we backed the Legion's call to 'Honour the Covenant' at our September conference.
