A Blissful Break in Wonderful Wiltshire!

Last week, Rosemarie and I spent a relaxing 3 nights in a beautiful part of the world that we'd never visited before. Yes, Wiltshire! Winding limestone valleys, streams, rivers, lakes, picturesque villages with thatched cottages and amazing traditional pubs - also wide, clear uplands with views for miles, rich farmland, fat cattle and sheep, woodlands, miles of footpaths, towns with amazing cathedrals, mediaeval marketplaces and majestic country houses. We went down in the electric car, charged up en route while we had a coffee and then, after our arrival, an excellent meal. Fortified by a good traditional breakfast with eggs from the hotel's chickens, we spent the following day walking around the nearby countryside. The day after that we drove to a park-and-ride, where we left the car charging up while we went into town using our bus passes. Finally we made our leisurely way back home with a rapid charge near Stonehenge and taking in a National Trust property on the way. The small country hotel we stay

Could this be a First? Recycling London Underground Trains.

Actually not. There's a well developed second-hand trade in refurbished or adapted locomotives and occasionally multiple unit sets. For example, in 1966 six 4-car sets and six 3-car sets of London Underground stock built in 1923 were converted for use on the Isle of Wight Line and again in 1989 nine 2-car sets of 1938 London Underground vintage stock was modified, refurbished and also put to use on the Isle of Wight.
