No homes for our children in Waverley Borough

It is a sad indictment, that the actions of the ruling Conservative group at Waverley Council do not match their rhetoric when it comes to providing affordable homes in the Borough. In the final two-year period of the current Conservative administration at Waverley, ending in March 2011, just a miserly 27 affordable homes will have been completed. This compares to a total of 154 affordable homes built in the final two years of the last Liberal Democrat administration, ending in March 2007.

The unkindest cut of all - a callous disregard for voluntary groups! - Waverley

Residents will be disappointed to learn that Prime Minister Cameron's vision of support for the "Big Society" has not filtered down to his colleagues at Waverley. Although Waverley boasts of its own sound financial position Conservative Councillors, at the Borough Council's budget meeting on Tuesday 15th February, showed a callous disregard for the financial plight of key voluntary groups in Waverley. At the budget meeting a Liberal Democrat amendment to re-instate £43,000's worth of cuts in Waverley's grant to the Borough's voluntary sector was rejected by every Conservative Councillor present.

Council Tax Freeze & Council Budget

Council Tax bills in Newcastle for 2011/12 will be kept at 2010/11 levels. This means that the Lib Dems will have kept Council Tax below the rate of inflation for seven years.
