Wheelie Bins

Many residents view with alarm the district council's decision to introduce wheelie bins for the collection of household waste, especially as this will also bring a fortnightly collection.

Action at Dangerous Crossroads

The dangerous crossroads at Fiddlers Hamlet is now safer, thanks to the efforts of resident Simon Pratt-Adams and local district and county councillor Janet Whitehouse. On the day Simon moved in, a car crashed into his garden- and it happened again last summer. Initially protective bollards were installed on the pavement by his house and the lines on the road repainted. Later enlarged signs, a new 'Bend' sign and reflector posts were provided. "I'm glad these safety measure are in place" said Janet "But it's still a dangerous junction and drivers need to drive with care".

New protection for consumers taking out extended warranties welcomed

Simon Davey, County Council Candidate for Congleton West has welcomed new government measures to protect consumers against the mis-selling of extended warranties for electrical goods - but added that there are still a great number of warranties on the market that represent little value for money to consumers. He is calling for further crackdowns on the selling and marketing of these warranties.

Lib Dems pledge financial discipline, greater fairness and a liberal economy

Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, and Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Dr Vince Cable, will today promote a liberal and fair economy. This would mean improvements in health, education and the public services, the abolition of the unfair Council Tax, and strong economic growth, matched by tough financial discipline.
