As the refurbished clock was unveiled in Brentwood High Street on Wednesday (25/1/12) it was great to see that Jill Hubbard, former Lib Dem councillor for Warley, was there to see it happen.

A Council Tax Freeze
On Wednesday next week, a meeting of the Full Council will consider the budget which has been proposed by the all-party Executive. After we delivered a small council tax cut last year, I am pleased to report that we are again proposing to freeze bills for local households. While the Council is in a well-reported extremely difficult financial situation, with large cuts in government funding and factors such as inflation hitting it hard, times are tough for local residents and it is vital that the Council does not put more pressure on household budgets through the council tax bill. Under the former County Council, local households had to contend with year after year of inflation-busting rises. We're putting a stop to that, and I have pledged to ensure that over my four-year term of office Council tax bills will have gone up by less than inflation, i.e. a real-terms cut.

500 Families from Hell in Wiltshire
Plans to transform the lives of what the government calls "troubled families" have been announced. £450 million has been made available in a new drive to turn around the lives of 120,000 of some of the country's most disfunctional families by the end of this Parliament.

Council challenged to act on flooding
Whitehall Councillors David & Karimeh Foster have challenged the Council to act to stop flooding across the A666 at Bull Hill, Darwen. Water drains of the fileds behind the Oceon Palace restaurant and flows across the road with potential flooding problems in heavy rain. It also poses a danger to motorists in icy weather.

Mass demonstration in Kendal to hand over radiotherapy petition
South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has today announced that on Saturday 3rd March the community will formally hand over the radiotherapy petition to NHS bosses who will decide on Westmorland General Hospital's bid for a radiotherapy unit.
