Tories Transport Incompetence Costs Essex Taxpayers Millions

Transport plans prepared by the Conservatives at Essex County Council are the least likely to attract government funding than every other county council in the country bar one. Details obtained by the Liberal Democrats have revealed that Essex County Council ranks almost at the bottom of the government's list of transport investment per local authority over the last eight years.

Tories Vote to Charge for School Transport

Conservatives at County Hall today voted to press ahead with charges for 16-19 year old students travelling more than three miles to school or college. This is despite evidence presented by Liberal Democrats at the meeting that their policy goes against clear guidance from the Department for Education and Skills.

Paul Holmes MP has today accused the Government of stealing educational opportunity from Derbyshire's adults, in response to the Learning and Skills Council's indication that funding for Derbyshire's Adult Community Education Service will be slashed by more than £1 million in 2006/07.
